How do I link a Facebook group to a Facebook page?

There are some small business owners and entrepreneurs who have built a community of brand loyalists by using a Facebook Group. The purposes of their Facebook Group varies – from sharing promotions, new product releases, and special events with their preferred customers to utilizing a private Facebook Group as part of their online course. Historically, if you were the owner of a Facebook Business Page as well as a Facebook Group, they pretty much existed completely separately from one another. While these 2 Facebook properties are still separate and distinct in how they function, Facebook has finally rolled out a way to better connect one with the other.

*Starting late Q1 2020, Facebook began rolling out a new Profile and Business Page look and layout. The process is still the same but the look of will vary depending on what your current version of Facebook is.

Begin by visiting your Facebook Business Page and clicking on Settings –> Edit Page (updated version: Page Settings –> Templates and Tabs). Next, scroll down to the bottom of the Template section to find the Add a Tab button (updated version: Toggle the on/off switch next to the Group tab to turn it on. If you don’t see it, try changing the Template at the top of the Page).

Click on the Add a Tab button and choose to add a Groups tab.

Drag and drop the Groups tab to whatever place in the tab order you want it. To do so, be sure to click on the icon with the 3 lines to the left of the tab names (updated version: icon with 6 dots to the left of the tab names).

Next, return to the main view of your Business Page, and click on Groups in the lefthand navigation (updated version: Page Settings –> Groups).

If you haven’t already created a Facebook Group, click to create one. Otherwise click on the Link your Group button.

A pop-up will present you with all the Facebook Groups you admin to choose which one to link.

After you choose one, it’ll showed as “Linked” in the list.

Your Facebook Business Page will refresh and you’ll notice the new box in the right sidebar that shows your Group name with an arrow to click to take you to it.

Updated version: Locate the Group tab in the navigation located under the cover photo.

Once you visit your Facebook Group after linking, you’ll see text in the cover photo that says “Linked Group” and a post made that reads, “Eli Rose Social Media made Eli Rose Social Media an admin”.

This means you can now continue to post in your Facebook Group as yourself, or as your Page. You toggle between your 2 personalities just like you would when leaving a comment on your Page.

After connecting your Facebook Group to your Facebook Business Page, you’ll start receiving notifications for your Group as part of your Page notifications.

Going Live on Facebook in your Group

Once you’ve connected your Group to your Page, the process of going Live inside your Group when on mobile requires an extra step. Here’s what it looks like using the regular Facebook app.

Click on the arrow located to the right of your Page name. You’ll then be shown this screen below that asks you if you want to go Live in your Facebook Group as your Page or as yourself.

More recently, Facebook gave Group admins a couple options for connecting your Group to your Page. When you visit your Facebook Group, click on the button with 3 dots located beneath the Group cover photo.

Updated look below.

From this drop down menu, you have the option to Link Existing Group, Create New Linked Group, or Create New Group. You can also link or unlink a Group by clicking on the Edit Group Settings tab.

Manage Roles for Groups linked to your Facebook Page

With the updated Facebook Page layout, you can visit Page Settings –> Groups to control who is an admin or moderator of your linked Facebook book. By default, everyone who is connected with a Page Role on your Facebook Business Page will be shown here. Select those with a role on your Page who you want to moderate or admin your Group, then click “Save”.

If you’ve got a Facebook Group, you may want to link it to your Facebook Page. It means that your Page will be an Admin of the Group – which allows you to interact in the Group as your Page and opens up a few extra options for you.

It also allows Facebook users to find your Group a lot easier (especially if you’re running Paid Facebook Ads) because your Group will appear on your Facebook Page!
