FAQs

What does it mean to have songs in my Spotify Library?

Spotify – the world’s premium music-streaming service – gives each of its users the full and free use of their own personal ‘Library’ of music. This Library acts as a digital version of a Vinyl Record or CD collection used to, in other words, it can be used to keep all of your favourite music in one place, and in the order you like to keep it in.

The Spotify Library makes the music listening experience all the easier by providing you with the tools to save your favourite songs and albums for free and navigate between them with ease.

The songs in your Spotify Library are the full collection of individual tracks which your various saved albums and playlists contain, and the number can quite often be staggeringly large. However, when we refer to the songs in your Spotify Library here, what we mean are your ‘Liked Songs’, i.e. the songs which you have ‘liked’ by tapping the heart icon next to them, or have downloaded (either by downloading them individually or as part of an album or playlist).

Your number of Liked Songs is easy to find.

Why would I want to know how many ‘Liked Songs’ are in my Spotify Library?

There is a number of reasons as to why you might want to know the number of ‘Liked Songs’ in your Spotify Library, not least is pure curiosity. Perhaps you and your mates are having a bragging competition, or exchanging musical notes. Maybe Spotify is taking up quite a lot of storage space on your phone and/or PC and you want to know why. Alternatively, you may be doing a clean up of your ‘Library’ and wish to know your number of liked songs or the number of songs in a playlist, so as to trim the fat from either (or both!)

What can I do with the information/number of songs?

Knowing the number of songs in your Spotify Library can help you to see why Spotify is taking up the storage space on your device which it currently occupies, and allows you to act accordingly. If you find out that you’ve got, say, over 5,000 Liked Songs on Spotify, you may decide that it’s time to go through this list and get rid of any unwanted downloads.

Similarly, knowing that a favourite playlist of yours only has 50 songs in it, or a playlist you always find a little clunky has over 500 songs, allows you to enhance your experience with that playlist by beefing it up, or slimming it down, respectively.

Can other people see how many songs are in my Spotify Library?

No. Other users can visit your profile, see your Public Playlists, and see how many songs are in each of those playlists; however, they cannot see how many songs you have saved in your Library. This number is available to you and you only. Privacy matters!

Are all the songs in my ‘Liked Songs’ downloaded to my device?

Whilst not all of the songs which you’ve liked will also be downloaded to your device, any songs, albums, or playlists you’ve downloaded will automatically be ‘liked’ and thus included in the number of like songs in your Spotify Library.
