Sometimes, when connecting an internal or external hard drive to Windows XP (or newer), 32-bit operating system, you may find your drive is inaccessible. And Disk Management reports that the drive has a GPT Protective Partition. If you right-click the protected disk, you will find there are no available options. That means drive cannot be repartitioned and reformatted.
Why this occurs? That's mainly because the internal or external hard disk is connected to a computer that is running Windows 32-bit operating system, and there is a compatibility issue between the GPT partition table and operating system (check the below chart to view the compatibility). Then the OS will not able to properly recognize or manage the hard drive.
How to remove GPT protective partition using CMD in Windows 11, 10, 8, 7?
To successfully remove or delete the GPT protective partition, you can convert the GPT to MBR. However, if you right-click the protected disk, you will find there are no available options In Disk Management. In such a case, you can remove GPT Protective Partition using Diskpart.
Note: Diskpart will require you to delete all existing partitions (along with all saved data) on the disk and then convert it to MBR partition style. Thus, you should backup files in advance if there are vital data.
Step 1. Find the disk number of the GPT protective partition and remember it.
1. Right-click Computer or This PC and then select Manage from the context menu.
2. Select Disk Management in the pop-up window.
3. Find the disk marked as GPT Protective Partition and remember its disk number.
Step 2. Delete GPT protective partition in Windows 7/8/10/11
1. Type cmd in the search box and then run as administrator.
2. Type diskpart in the command prompt and hit Enter.
3. Type the following commands in order and press "Enter" after each one.
•list disk
•select disk n(n refers to the disk marked as GPT Protective Partition.)
•clean
•convert mbr
•exit
It’s a great choice to clean the GPT protective partition and convert GPT protective partition to MBR using Diskpart. However, it may not succeed all the time. For example, when there are partitions on the disk, you will receive an error message in the following.

Diskpart can delete GPT protective partition, but the Clean command will result in data loss. Kalau sobat pernah mengalaminya maka postingan ini merupakan postingan yang tepat untuk sobat baca.
GPT (Guide Partition Table) merupakan format partisi harddisk yang baru - baru ini muncul, jadi jika kita mau menginstal ulang kita harus merubah format disk dulu caranya seprti berikut:
1. Sebelum menginstal windows yang hardisknya berformat partition style, sebaiknya
karena untuk menghapus GPT partition style ini syaratnya disk harus di clean artinya data akan terhapus semua
2. Kemudian kita masuk bios dan ganti boot mode UEFI menjadi CSM boot atau Legacy (caranya masuk ke bios dengan menekan del atau f2 kemudian pilih advance-system configuration-boot mode)
3. Masukan CD instalasi windows setelah muncul jendela welcome instalasi, tekan tombol shift dan f10 secara bersamaan
4. Kemudian akan muncul tampilan cmd ketik diskpart untuk menjalankan aplikasi diskpart
5. Setelah masuk diskpart, ketik list disk untuk menampilkan daftar disk dan lihat disk yang ada tanda * pada kolom GPT (artinya disk tersebut menggunakan format gpt)
6. Untuk menghapus GPT partition style, pilih disk yang ada tanda * pada kolom gpt tadi kemudian ketik select disk=0 (karena pada tutorial yang format gpt ada di disk 0)
7. Setelah muncul "Disk 0 is now the selected disk" kemdudian kita ketik clean. Tunggu sampai proses selesai kemudian restart komputer dan komputer sobat siap untuk di instal ulang
