If you want to send a message to a certain Facebook user without logging into Facebook, you can do so by sending an email to the user's Facebook messaging inbox. This inbox contains messages sent from within Facebook, as well as messages sent to the unique Facebook.com email address containing that user's vanity username. You can send an email to Facebook by following a few steps.

Step 1

Sign into your Gmail account at Gmail.com.

Step 2

Click the "Compose Mail" button on the left side of the screen.

Step 3

Enter the vanity username for the Facebook user you'd like to email, followed by @facebook.com. For example:

[email protected]

Step 4

Click the "Send" button to send your message. Your email will show up in the recipient's Facebook messaging section as a new message, and a small envelope icon will let them know that the message was sent from an email address.

At one time, Facebook users received a Facebook Messenger email address where you could send a message using email services such as Gmail. Facebook has discontinued that service, but it's still possible to look up someone's phone or email or Google Talk contact information, using Facebook.

Find Phone or Email on Facebook

If you're looking to send someone an email using Gmail, but you don't have their email address, you can look for it on their Facebook profile. Some people choose to share their email addresses, phone numbers, instant messaging contact or other information on their profiles. This is optional. Even if you use your email address or phone number to log in to Facebook, you can set Facebook custom privacy settings to keep this information private or limit who can see it.

To see someone's contact information on Facebook, visit their profile page on the Facebook website or smartphone app. Then, click or tap "About," then "Contact and Basic Info" to see the information they share. If someone shared their email address, you can email them using Gmail, and if they shared Google Talk contact information, you can message them through the chat feature built into Gmail.

Restrict Facebook Info

If you want to limit which of your contact information is visible on the service, you can do so through your Facebook custom privacy settings. To do this, click your name on the Facebook website, then click "About" and "Contact and Basic Info." Click the "Edit" button next to your email address, and use the audience drop-down option to choose who can see it. Options include your friends, only you, or a select group of friends.

Facebook Email and Forwarding

For a time, Facebook offered its own email service, giving people an @facebook.com email address that would send message to their Facebook accounts. After a while, the service was changed to forward messages to people's separate email addresses. Later, the service was discontinued entirely, so you will not be able to use a Facebook email address to contact anyone today.

Using Facebook and Messenger

If you don't have someone's email address, you can still contact them through Facebook if you are friends with them or can find them on the service. If you are Facebook friends, you can reach out to them by sending them a Facebook message or writing on their timeline.

If you're not, you can search for them on the Facebook website or app and ask to add them as a friend.
